The Easter Bunny will be hopping into Rainy River a day early this week!
Yes the 6th Annual Rainy River Easter Egg Hunt is slated for this Saturday at the Rainy River Community Centre.
Kids up to the age of 13 are welcome to participate and activities get underway at 10 a.m.!
Recreation Director Meghan Shanks said they have tweaked some of the fun this year to make it even more fun!
For kids in the 4 and under age group, the annual egg hunt will involve a bit more challenge. In the past the kids searched for plastic eggs at Riverview School’s playgrounds, gathering them and bringing them back to the Community Centre. “This year each kid will be given a piece of paper with different coloured eggs on them. They will have to find the eggs shown on the strip (of paper),” explained Shanks. While kids will not be penalized for not finding all the eggs on their list organizers thought, “It would be more of a challenge for them,” said Shanks.
Kids in both the 5-8 and 9-13 age groups will continue to do their egg hunt in the basement of the Community Centre. However, new this year will be team play and the addition of grand prizes. They will be divided into teams of three, given a set amount of time to find a certain colour of eggs in the dark using flashlights. If they bring back the wrong colour of eggs they will be penalized. Points will be allotted and then the winning team of three will win a giant KinderEgg.
There will also be other activities going on in and outside the Community Centre. In doors there will be crafts, pin the tail on the bunny activities and relay type games, as well as a play area for really young kids. Outside there will be Kick the Egg and Capture the Egg. These will all take place at different times.
Kids need to preregister to be guaranteed a “Loot Bag”. After searching for the eggs all participants (preregistered) will receive a Loot Bag. Shanks said they usually get about 100 kids and if there are not 100 preregistered, late registrants can participate and may get a Loot Bag.
To preregister bring $3 to the RR Public Library, Riverview School or the Best Start Hub by Thursday evening (closing time at each place).
