Students raise $3,820 for Kony 2012

By Kaylee Heyens
RRHS Student
This past Friday, April 20th RRHS students participated in our annual Wake-a-thon. This year, students raised $3,820.50 that will be donated to the organization Free the Children. Our money will go towards helping those less fortunate in 3rd world countries by providing health care, food, clean drinking water, shelter and education.
In addition, throughout the night of our wake-a-thon, students braved the cold to blanket our school campus with hundreds of posters of the face of Joseph Kony, the world’s worst war criminal. Red banners, posters, streamers and paint covered the walls and windows of Rainy River High School. We believe our small school took part in making Kony a household name – famous. Famous not to celebrate him, but to make others aware of the horrific crimes he has been committing for 26 years.
We would like to thank all community members for the amazing support we received; we couldn’t have done it without you!
