News Release
RRHCC
At the Thursday, May 31, 2012 meeting of the Rainy River Health Care Committee the revised tenders for construction of the Locum Rental House were presented by the Building Sub-Committee. Two tenders were received on May 25, one from Ed Kaun Construction of Fort Frances for $423,347.72 and one from John Sinninghe of Rainy River for $347,639.50. Both tenders included H.S.T.
The Committee accepted the tender of John Sinninghe for the 1877 square foot building which when the HST rebate portion is deducted comes to a net tender amount of $313,058.34 or $166.78 per sq. ft. Sinninghe also offered some optional door and window alternatives that could reduce the net price another 4-9,000.00. Those alternatives will be reviewed and considered by the Committee. The Committee has forwarded their decision on the tender to the Partner Communities of Big Grassy First Nation, The Township of Dawson, the Township of Lake of the Woods, and the Town of Rainy River, for their endorsements. This is expected to be completed within the next week. Construction of the building is now scheduled to begin July 19, 2012 with completion later this year.
Norma Elliott, chair of the Fundraising Committee reports donations and pledges to date total $155,502.92. Volunteers operating the canteen at this past weekend auction sales expect to report a net receipt of near $1700.00 once all expenses and donations are accounted for. A number of projects are being planned including a penny drive, garage sale, an updated brochure, and perhaps a community auction. Details will be announced coinciding with the start of construction. We are now about half-way to our goal.
Both current and retired CN employees are reminded to log onto the CN website and complete their community service hours for the substantial donations available from CN. Check your last CN Newsletter.
Mrs. Elliott, who also sits on the Physician Recruitment Committee, reported that we currently have full physician coverage until the end of August 2012. Negotiations are underway to provide for long term medical staff coverage, amongst interested physicians and the Ministry of Health. A positive announcement is expected in the near future. Whatever the outcome of those negotiations, Locum physicians will remain an important component of continuing full medical staffing. The Locum Rental House will be more important than ever in recruiting and maintaining not only temporary Locums but permanent physicians as well.
