One of Rainy River’s own has come home to take on the position of Recreation Director in the community.
Kam Kuzyk, 22, son of Lori and Dennis Kuzyk, recently graduated from Lakehead University with a Honours Bachelor Degree in Kineasology.
“I had no idea what I was going to do after school then this job came up,” said Kuzyk. He and his long time girlfriend, Carly Nordin both came home to work. Nordin took Kuzyk’s summer job from last year working for the school board.
Kuzyk is glad to be back working, plus he gets to see all his family and many friends. “This is a great opportinity for me.”
Kuzyk has filled the position left by long time Rec. Director Megan Shanks who left for a job in Thunder Bay th is spring. “I am picking up right where Megan left off,” said Kuzyk.
His first week or so involved playing catch up. “There were 90 unanswered messages when I started (two weeks ago).”
He said youth soccer is in full swing. He hopes to increase gym memberships and possibly start a slopitch league. “I might create a weight-loss contest to boost memberships and I am thinking a mixed (fun) slopitch night on Fridays would go over well.”
He said that there is lots of other things already on tap. There is Canada Day, Railroad Daze and the Trade Show.
“I plan to maintain what is already in place and possibly expand activities. I am open to suggestions.” He can be reached by calling the Recreation Centre at 807-852-4446 or via email at rainyriverrec@tbaytel.net.
Outside of work he loves to golf and plays fastball on the Rainy River Royals.
