Missing Grandfather & Grandson found safe

Over the weekend of June 8 and 9, 2012, officers of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Rainy River District Detachment investigated the report of two missing people from Wisconsin, USA including a grandfather and grandson believed to be travelling in the Rainy River District.
The pair was scheduled to rent a cabin in the Sapawe, Ontario area to go fishing over a 5 day period. When the two failed to reach their intended destination, the cabin owner alerted family members. As a result, concerned family members contacted Barron County Sheriff Department who, in turn, advised the OPP of the report and requested assistance in locating the pair. The last known point of reference for police was a cellular signal in the Sapawe area and therefore police began to conduct a search with the assistance of the North West Region Emergency Response Team including helicopter air support. As part of a missing person investigation, OPP conducted an officer broadcast and had regional OPP units on the look out for the vehicle. At 6:05 pm, on June 9, 2012 OPP officers of the Armstrong OPP Detachment located the vehicle and the FREDRICKSON’s fishing in the Black Sturgeon Lake area. The two had changed their travel plans without consulting with family.
The OPP reminds everyone to consult with family members to give a detailed itinerary of travel plans prior to setting out. If travel plans elect to change for any reason, ensure family members are consulted and aware of the changes.
