Kudos to those who entered the Santa Claus parade
Monique Gall
Recreation Director
This past summer was a busy time for the recreation board and staff with our centennial celebrations, the walleye tournament, Railroad Daze and the Labour Day Tournament.
The Santa parade of lights had eight floats participating.
Kudos to the businesses, organizations and individuals whom took time to decorate floats. Unfortunately, the float of Rainy River Drugs never saw the parade due to high winds on the way into town. The float flew off the back of the truck. Thanks for your efforts anyway, Vicky, Sarah and all who helped them. Hats off to the Rainy River Legion for donating the Christmas oranges for the children, and to Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus for taking time out of their busy schedule.
Upcoming events at the centre are as follows.
Thursday, Dec 23 starting at 6:30 p.m. our annual Men’s Christmas Fun Tournament will be happening. Draft picks for teams. So come out and play, have a refreshment. We will be holding a smear tournament at 7:30.
On Sunday, December 26, we will be holding our annual Boxing Day Dance from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. You must be 19 years of age and older to attend.
On Thursday, December 30, 2004 starting at 5:00 p.m. we are holding a pizza and movie night here at the recreation centre. This is being sponsored by The Recreation Board, The Toy Library, and the Ontario Sunset Metis Association. If you would like to sign your child up, please give me a call.
I am sure that people of our community are aware that the Rainy River Recreation is spearheaded by a board of volunteer people. (We are seeking additional board members if anyone is interested). At the present time our board consists of Wes Blight, Deb Wagner, Lisa Armstrong, Grace Seguin, Marlene McNally. Staff at the Recreation centre include Walter Wagner, Jeremy Bonhomme, Chad Armstrong and Joel Ashworth. Together we try to make things happen. Without the commitment of these people, without the financial help from the Legion, and other organizations things wouldn’t happen here. These people and organizations deserve a great deal of acknowledgement, for their time and effort put forth in ensuring that our little recreation continues.
In closing I would like to thank everyone who is involved in recreation for your continued support.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
