Fire department kept busy over holidays
Ken Johnston
Two false alarms and one close call kept the Rainy River Fire Department on their toes over the holidays.
Thursday, December 16th, 10:30 a.m. the department was called out to the Rainy River Ontario Provincial Police station when the fire alarm went off there. It was just a false alarm.
On Christmas eve the department was again called out this time to the apartments adjoining the Rainy River Record Office. The tenant in the front ground floor apartment had left a candle burning while away from home. It burned down and shattered the glass around it. The smoke set off alarms and the neighbour in the back apartment called 911.
Fortunately the fire went out on its own and no one was hurt or property lost.
On Dec. 28th, 10:45 a.m., the fire dept. was called to Heritage House on First St. in Rainy River. Fortunately it was a false alarm.
