Iona Hazel Unger, 89

It is with great sadness we mourn the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother Iona Unger.
Iona was born on March 1, 1915 in Blue Township to Harriet and Alex Grant. In 1933 she married Frank Unger and lived in Blue Township where they raised their family. In May of 1973 they built a house on First Street in Rainy River. There they enjoyed their garden and travelling in their camper. Upon her husband Frank’s passing Iona sold the house and moved into the Heritage House where she lived until her passing.
She is survived by her daughters Marion Unger, Irene Agnew and her husband Bruce and son Victor and his wife Amelia. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Iona was predeceased by her loving husband Frank Unger Sr., her son Frank Unger Jr., sisters Agnes Van-Brabant, May Biro and brothers Wesley, Clarence and Orvin Grant.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Knox United Church in Rainy River. Pastor Brian Keffer officiated with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River.
Friends visited with the family on Tuesday, January 11 from 5 until 8 p.m at the Rainy River Funeral Home in Rainy River.
The active pallbearers were Don Selman, Willard Peters, Larry Johnson, Carl Peters, Walter Wagner and Bob Johnson.
The honourary pallbearers were Peter Mykytyn, Fred Hartnell, Charles Johnson, Reg Kaus, Gerald Fadden and Walter Peters.

Our mother was a blessing, and we were so blessed. For children need their loving parent, just as Hollywood needs its star, and the world needs it heroes. And our mother was and will forever be all these and more to us.
