Gary Lawrence Kilpatrick ("Killer")
(October 26, 1934 to December 7, 2012)
Gary Lawrence Kilpatrick ("Killer") of Kingston, Ontario died peacefully at Kingston General Hospital on December 7th, at the age of 78.
Gary was born in Toronto, the only son of Eileen Lawrence and Alfred Kilpatrick.
Early in life, he moved to Powassan, Ontario where he enjoyed camping, outdoor activities, and helping his grandfather with his sugar bush.
He graduated high school in North Bay, and entered RCMP training in Regina, where he particularly enjoyed the equestrian training.
He was posted to Parliament Hill in Ottawa, during the time of Louis St. Laurent. He was later posted to Rideau Hall to guard the then Governor General Vincent Massey.
He also worked for 2 years doing investigations for Internal Revenue.
He married Sylvia McKerrow and moved to Dryden to join the OPP. They had 3 children, Chris, Tracy and Sean. He also served in Sioux Lookout and Kenora. In Red Lake, among his other duties, he patrolled the northern Native reserves and gathered an impressive collection of Native art and beadwork. In 1970 he married Audrey Brannan of Sioux Lookout. Kelly and Vicki were born to them in Red Lake.
Gary loved the north and his interests included fishing, boating, water skiing, curling, and partying. In Rainy River, he retired from the OPP at the age of 48 due to heart problems. In retirement he bought a Le Baron convertible and he and Audrey explored Arizona and the west coast of Mexico.
Gary loved music and played the clarinet and the bag pipes. He also loved animals and his dogs were always his favourite companions.
Gary had a wicked sense of humour, and those who knew him always expected the unexpected. He spent his last years in Kingston living with his son Chris.
He also leaves behind Tracy, Sean, Kelly and Vicki.
