Earl Iver Sandmoen, 81

It is with great sadness that the family of Earl Iver Sandmoen announces his passing on Wednesday January 9th, 2013. Earl passed away peacefully with his family by his side.
Earl was born on November 27, 1931 to Alfred and Emma Sandmoen of Rainy River, Ontario. Earl was a man of many talents; he worked as a fishing guide, drove school bus, was a truck driver, and worked as a mechanic and welder in the Rainy River area. After moving to Niagara on the Lake he worked as a welder in the shipyards and GM Motors retiring after 26 plus years. After retirement he owned his own company called Sandy’s Welding, was president of the Home Owners Association and being president was invited to have dinner with Queen Elizabeth 11 when she visited in 1971. He was also appointed special constable under the OPP and Niagara Regional Police.
Family and friends always enjoyed Earl’s company; he always had a joke to tell and made people laugh. He entertained by playing his accordion and singing favorite songs, some of which he had composed himself. He loved to take Ruth out dancing; they spent many happy times together at dance functions. He also enjoyed travelling, visiting with family and friends and going fishing. Earl was a member of the Rainy River Royal Canadian Legion.
Earl is survived by his son Wayne (Ann), Wayne’s mother Joyce, step grandchildren Michael (Sonya) Beaushene, Myndi Siemens and three step great grandchildren David Beaushene, Jacob and Katie Siemens.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life Ruth McGregor who survives with her children Donna (Steven) Walsh, Allan (Tara) McGregor, grandchildren Ashley (Michael) Perfetto, Mitchell (Melissa) Walsh, Eric and Mathew McGregor.
Earl is also survived by his sisters Beulah (Bill) Olson and Sandy Ross (nee Lillian Sandmoen), sister- in- law Rose Hanson, cousins Stan (Bev) Sandmoen, Walter Sandmoen and also numerous nieces and nephews and special friends.
Earl was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Emma Sandmoen, brothers Harold, Miles and Leo Sandmoen.
A celebration of Earl’s life was held on Tuesday January 15, 2013 at 11.a.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home, Emo, Ont, with Rev Jacob Quast Officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
