Lost man found alive on Lake of the Woods

News Release

On March 4, 2013 at 6:48 pm, officers of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were alerted of a stranded snowmobile operator on Lake of the Woods. Baudette Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call from a male reporting that his snowmobile had become stuck in snow and slush. The male reported that he was lost and therefore unable to report to police his exact location.
OPP North West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) with the assistance of 435 (Transport and Rescue) Squadron based out of 17 Wing Winnipeg, MB responded. A CC 130 Hercules flew over the area and located a fire on Bigsby Island at approximately 6:30 am on March 5, 2013. A radio was dropped to the male to allow for communication. OPP ERT was then able to respond to the island by snowmobile and locate the male who was cold but in good health.
