You are here

Crazy to live here?

T-shirts one day, parkas the next!
You don't have to be crazy to live here, but sometimes it helps!
Anyone who has never experienced winter probably wonders if we are all crazy for living up here in the Great White North (a.k.a. Canada)!
Over the weekend we had two extremes of weather. Friday was 62 F and there were no winds to speak of. Saturday was 60 F without the wind, but the winds were a bit stronger, making it feel a bit cooler.
Then Sunday it flip-flopped back to winter. There was a light dusting of snow on the ground and it was very chilly. It struggled to reach into the 20s F... and the windchill made it feel much colder. Monday was more of the same... cold and windchillish!
After Friday and Saturday I was thinking the sanity of spring and summer weather had finally arrived... but then Old Man Winter proved to me that he still has some craziness left to show us!
So why would one not have to be crazy to live here where the weather can go from one extreme to the other in a matter of a day?
I think that Canadians are just geared to be part of the cycle. I personally have said on many occasions that without winter we would not learn to truly appreciate summer!
And while it made me, and I am sure many others, a little crazy on Sunday when the cold came back... we all know that soon calmer days will prevail and before you know it we will be complaining how hot it is...
–Until then,
Ken
