Four RRHS Owls bring home NORWOSSA gold!

Four Rainy River High School students have advanced to the NWOSSA badminton championships!
Last week NORWOSSA championships were held in Kenora. All four competitors advanced to NWOSSAs by going undefeated at NORWOSSAs.
Shauna Moen and Logan Jackson competed as a Senior Mixed Doubles team.
Skylar Arpin competed as a Senior Girls player and her sister Hayley Arpin competed as a Junior Girls player.
Coach Guy Arpin said, “They all peaked at the right time. Teams that beat them in the NORWOSSA qualifiers lost to our players last week. They played the best they have all season!”
The competitors now advance to NWOSSAs in Dryden, Ont. on April 17th. If the seniors are in the top two there, they advance to the All Ontarios. NWOSSA is as far as Jr. players can advance.
If successful, Skylar will make her second appearance at the All Ontarios. Last year she played Senior Girls Doubles with Courtney Hansen (who graduated last year).
Coach Arpin said that a big thank you has to be sent out to Hansen’s father Darrell who dropped off “Competition Cookies!”
Every year for the several years the Hansens had a member of their family competing in NORWOSSA and often NWOSSA and All Ontario Badminton. “This was the first year they did not have anyone competing, but yet they made an effort to send their support by dropping off the cookies just before we left. It was a real morale booster for the team!” said Arpin.
Other NORWOSSA news
The RRHS soccer teams are hoping for spring to arrive. The school is scheduled to host NORWOSSA league games at the end of April but there is still snow on the field here.
