Fire victim's name released

On Friday May 31, 2013 at approximately 4:45 am, Fort Frances Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Fire Department and Ambulance Services along with the LaVallee Fire Department responded to a house fire at a residence on Hwy 11/71, Devlin Township.
Investigation has revealed that one occupant died in the house fire. A post mortem examination was conducted in Kenora on June 2, 2013 and the deceased female has been identified as 49 year old Laureen C. McKAY.
Further information will be released when it becomes available.
Boating accident
On June 8, 2013 officers with the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for assistance involving a boat on Manion Lake.
Investigation determined that a group of three men from Minnesota had gone out fishing for the afternoon on Manion Lake and all three were subsequently ejected from the boat. The reason the occupants were ejected is unknown at this time.
Another group of fishermen noted the boat in the water with no passengers onboard and went over to determine what was happening. They located the three men in the water and all were subsequently transported to shore.
Sixty-four year old Douglas DAVIS of North Mankato, Minnesota was subsequently pronounced dead. The post mortem is scheduled for June 10, 2013.
The investigation is continuing.
The public is reminded to practice boating safety and to wear a personal floatation device (PFD) onboard at all times.
