Lena Tesarsky, 97

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lena Tesarsky announce her passing on June 24, 2013, peacefully at the Rainy River Health Centre, with her loving family at her side, just six days before her 98th birthday.

Lena was born in Stuartburn, Manitoba, on June 30, 1915, to Ukrainian immigrant farming parents, and was the last surviving member of a family of 13. In 1942 she married Mike Tesarsky, and they eventually settled in Rainy River.

Lena was very devoted to her family, relatives and friends, enjoying their company and always making sure all of her visitors were well fed when they visited her. According to her grandchildren, “Grandma made the best bread in the whole world”. She also enjoyed sewing quilts, gardening, and in her earlier years, blueberry picking. She was an auxiliary member of the Hospital, Legion and Catholic Church, and loved attending their bazaars and teas.

She was predeceased by her parents John and Ann Monastyrski, her husband Mike in 1992, her 12 siblings, several in-laws, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Left to mourn her loss are her children Michael, Joey, Caroline (Bill), Ben, Veronica (Mike), Julie, and her beloved grandchildren Dean (Kelly); Tracey (Chris); Josh; Kristie, Keith, Kevin, Kelsey, Kasey, and their brother Chris, and their mother Sandy. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Olga (Bob) Stadey and Mary Monastyrski.
Prayers were held on Thursday, June 27th at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church, with funeral service on Friday, June 28th at 11:30 a.m., officiated by Father Alan Albao, with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
