Trainload of fun arriving this weekend

The 26th Annual Rainy River Railroad Daze Festival rolls into town this weekend!
Activities kick off Friday morning at 10 a.m. with a kids Bicycle Rodeo at Riverview School!
More kids fun begins at 11 a.m. at the public library when the Kids Summer Reading Program is held. The library will also be having its “Best Book Sale Ever!” from 11 a.m to 4 p.m.
From the young to the elderly, fun on the lawn at the Rainy River Activity Depot (old train station) will begin at 1 p.m. with a picnic. The band Hwy. 621 will be performing.
If the heat from all the outdoor activities is catching up with you by 4 p.m. the Royal Canadian Legion offers an air conditioned environment and will be serving Pork on a Bun.
After a bite to eat at the Legion, the Family Scavenger Hunt begins at the Recreation Centre. For adults there will also be Beer Gardens opening at 5:30 p.m. at the Rec. Centre.
A 12 team slo-pitch baseball tournament will be held at the Rec. Centre as well with games beginning at 6 p.m. Friday evening.
Jack and the Giant Slayer will be the feature film at Family Movie Night at 7 p.m. Fri. upstairs at the Rec. Centre.
Saturday morning the ball tournament and canteen at the ball diamonds resume operations at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. respectively.
Model airplane enthusiasts will gather for the annual RR Fun Fly just north of Rainy River. They will begin activities at 10 a.m.
The library book sale continues at 11 a.m.
At 11 a.m. the Railroad Daze Parade will begin at Hannam Park and continue up Main St.
At Noon the Catholic Women’s League will be hosting their annual luncheon at the Catholic Churck on Frist St. All are welcome!
Looking for fresh products for the dinner table? Well the RR Farmer’s Market opens at Noon on the main floor of the Rec. Centre.
At 1 p.m the slo-pitch tourney takes a break to let a grudge match between RR Royals and Pinewood Bears fastball teams.
Also at 1 p.m. is the Ooey Gooey Kids Games at the Best Start Hub (just north of ball diamonds).
All this fun will have people hankering for a hunk of beef! The Legion will be there to meet your needs with their always good Steak Fry from 5-7 p.m.
At 7 p.m there will be a Home Run Hitting Contest at the ball diamonds.
Adults looking to dance will be able to strut their stuff at the Rec. Centre at 9 p.m. DJ Amy Ashworth will be playing!
As the sun goes down a special treat will take place. The July 1st fireworks that could not be lit off will be at about 10:15 p.m. on the waterfront.
Sunday slo-pitch action resumes and the championship games will be at 4:30 p.m. that day.
An Interdenominational Church Service will be held at Hannam Park at 10 a.m.
Beer gardens resume at the Rec. Centre at 11 a.m. and then at 12:30 p.m. registration for the Great Beaver Cardboard Tuct Tape Races will begin. The races will be held at the Government Dock at 3:30 p.m..
