The 43rd Rainy River Open Golf Tournament will be held this Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Oak Harbor Golf Course in Baudette.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m and runs to 9:15 a.m. Organizer Bob McGreevy said that registration fees have not changed in more than a decade and this year is no exception. “We like to keep it reasonable. While it is a tournament it is more about having a fun day on the course,” explained McGreevy.
There are several flights available for people to participate in. Only one has strict residency requirements, the Championship Flight requires that a person is a current or former resident of Rainy River or has attended school in Rainy River at one time. It costs $25 to register in this flight.
The other flights include men’s, women’s and youth’s. The youth is 16 and under and is only $10 per person to register. The men’s and women’s are done using a set formula. “We take two par three, two par five and four par four holes and use the scores to flight people.” It costs $20 per person to enter these flights and they are open to anyone.
The course is 18 holes so people will not know which holes the tournament is using to flight them. Theoretically a person could have a mediocre day and still win a prize!
There are cash prizes for the top finishers in each flight. There are also competitions on the course including closest to the pin, closest to the center line and longest putt.
Once the golfers are done on the course prize presentations will take place at the clubhouse at Oak Harbor. The public is welcome to come out and cheer, spectate or golf!
Golfers are responsible for booking their own golf carts if needed.
