Forty-fifth Annual Rainy River Open
On Sunday, August 4th 22 dedicated golfers assembled at the Oak Harbor Golf Course in Baudette to compete in the 45th annual Rainy River Open Golf Tournament. The weather was perfect and the course was in great shape. Action got underway at 9:30 a.m. in the 18-hole stroke-play competition. The men’s championship event saw nine highly skilled golfers attack the course. In the men’s non-championship event there were also nine golfers. In the women’s flight there were four competitors.
After a day’s competition, Brayden Delvecchio was declared winner of the championship flight with an 18-hole score of 73. Tom Abma finished second with a score of 77, and Gion Delvecchio stood third with a score of 79.
In the women’s event, the trophy went to Hillary Hansen with a score of 101. Carly Nordin stood second, and Kelli Kuzyk finished in third spot.
In the men’s non-championship event, top honours went to Greg Wilson with a score of 78. Dennis Kuzyk finished in second place with a score of 94, and Scott Gale and Kirk Wood finished tied for third with 97.
There were several “Games of the Day” to add to the fun. For men, Guy Crackel won the longest putt, Greg Wilson won the par 3 closest tee shot to the pin, and Kam Kuzyk won “nearest to the midline”. For the ladies, Lorie Kuzyk won both the closest to the pin and closest to the midline competitions, while Kelli Kuzyk sank the longest putt.
The event organizers wish to thank all participants, especially those who travelled a considerable distance to compete.
