Gibbins win Pentney Memorial

Submitted by
Laurie Pentney

52 golfers gathered at Spruce Creek Golf Course, Saturday, July 27th, for the 2nd Annual Ken Pentney Memorial Golf Scramble.
The purpose of this tournament is to honour and celebrate both Ken’s dream of building a golf course as well as his birthday.
The tournament also serves as a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. This year, we raised over $2000! These funds were raised both on and off the course and in a variety of ways.
Sunset Country Ford of Fort Frances graciously donated a 2013 Ford Fusion as a 1st prize for the Hole-in-One Contest. A 2nd prize – a 3 night, 4 day stay at a Fairmont Hotel – was available for winning on our other par 3 hole. Although no one walked away with these prizes, they added to the overall excitement of the day immensely.
Later in the day, an additional 35 guests attended the fish fry which took place after the 18 holes of golf had been completed. The fish was cooked over an open fire and was excellent. A great day was had by all. A special thanks to all the staff and volunteers for making this day a success!
Top prizes were awarded as follows:
1st place – Oliver and Pat Gibbins
2nd place – Diane Cobiness and Greg Ward
3rd place – Greg and Rick Baker
Longest Drive – Jordan Hansen
Closest to the Pin – Reg Morrison/Ian Prince
Closest to the Line- Ron Goodman
