Athletic meeting called for students participating in co-ops

A fall athletic meeting is scheduled for this Thursday evening at Lake of the Woods School in Baudette.
The meeting is not just for students from Baudette, but also from Rainy River and Indus, MN as the three schools have sports cooperative agreements in several sports.
More than 20 years ago Rainy River and Indus had co-op agreements in high school hockey. They eventually evolved into an agreement with Lake of the Woods High School. It allows students from Rainy River and Indus High Schools to play on LoW’s hockey team. RRHS has not had its own hockey program since the mid 1980s.
Over the years the co-op agreements have been broadened to encompass several other sports. RRHS students can play both boys and girls hockey, boys and girls Track and Field, boys and girls Cross Country and boys Baseball.
While LoW has extended football agreements to Indus, RRHS students can not participate in that sport. However, elementary school students from Riverview School in Rainy River can participate in junior high school football (grades 6-8).
The fall athletic meeting will allow parents and students to meet coaches for the upcoming school year and ask questions they may have. “Parents are highly encouraged to attend this meeting to get a variety of information and questions answered,” said LoW Activities Director Brian Novak last week.
The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. in the LoW auditorium.
