The Northwestern Health Unit has released its annual public health report card.
Dr. James Arthurs, Medical Officer of Health says, “The report card tells the community and our funders about some of the work of the health unit in the past year.”
The report includes information on key areas of public health work including food safety, immunizations, child health, tobacco use prevention and safe water.
“The report card also introduces the health unit’s new strategic plan, approved by the Board of Health in 2012,” says Julie Roy, Board of Health Chair. Among other things, the health unit will work to increase community awareness of the agency, strengthen local partnerships and increase behaviours that prevent chronic diseases.
“The report card gives us a chance to highlight health unit services for readers who may not be aware of them,” says Chief Executive Officer Mark Perrault.
“Every time you enjoy a night out in a smoke-free restaurant, watch your child play on a stencilled school playground, or get a drink out of your tap at home, someone from public health has made a difference for you,” says Perrault.
The public health report card is available on the health unit’s website at www.nwhu.on.ca.
A hardcopy version is available by request.
