It was a quick and fairly uneventful evening when Rainy River Town Council held their regular monthly meeting Monday evening.
•The Personnel Committee brought forward a motion to hire four men to work on the waterline replacement project on First St. Councillor Ashley Stamler declared a conflict of interest as one of the men is her son.
All four, were hired by a vote of 3-0. Joining the town crew in the construction project are Mark Stamler, Shane Gulbrandsen, Ben Drennan and Curt Pearson.
•Council agreed to pay for Dept. Clerk Treas. Julie Tiboni to take an Association of Municipal Clerk Treasurers of Ontario course at a cost of $355 plus tax.
•Mayor Deb Ewald commented on how much recycling the community and its partners are doing. "Holy there was a lot there two weeks ago!"
Councillor Stamler asked what it would take to get another bin in place to handle the overflow.
Councillor Larry Armstrong said, "$250 per bin per month." He added, "The committee can look into options, but it is good to see all those items not going to the landfill site."
Councillor Susan Carpenter noted that part of the overflow is due to people not breaking down cardboard boxes.
•Mayor Deb Ewald noted that the RR District Municipal Association general meeting usually held in Sept. has been postponed due to the organization's Sec./Treas needing heart surgery.
Meeting adjourned at 7:22.
