There is bass fishing fever in the air and on the water! As the 9th Annual Morson Bass International (MBI) tournament fast approaches many of its regular anglers did very well at the Kenora Bass International (KBI) this past weekend.
Six of the top fifteen teams at KBI this past weekend have fished and even won MBI in the past. Bill Godin of Devlin and Leroy Wilson of International Falls won the KBI this year. Godin has also stood atop the podium in Morson.
Other teams doing well at KBI that regularly fish MBI were Jules and John Gibbins (4th), Pat Gibbins and Pat Handorgan, Jr. (6th), Mark Pentney and Peter Tiboni (7th), Oliver and Jason Gibbins (8th) and Clarence Gibbins Junior and Senior (12th).
All of the captains of the aforementioned teams except winner Bill Godin have registered with MBI this year which is making for a very competitive tournament!
“We have several teams already signed up and it looks like we will have a really good field this year!” said Terry Gill, Vice President of MBI last week.
The MBI is scheduled for August 24 and 25th at the Government Dock in Morson. Gill said that as in years past they will be offering over 100% prize payout. So the more teams that register the more the prizes will be. To register anglers can go to the MBI website at www.morsonbass.com.
In an attempt to attract new teams to the tournament the Morson Women’s Institute has offered a special offer. The Morson Women’s Institute in support of bringing new teams to participate in the 2013 tournament will give $200 cash to each of the first two New teams that register for the 2013 tournament.
The two person team must meet the following criteria:
*Both team members must be new to the tournament
*Registration must be paid in full
*Team must stay at one of the accommodation businesses listed on the MBI website
*Notify the MBI committee of eligibility on the entry form
*Team must participate in the tournament
“We will take registrations up until the rules meeting (Friday Aug 23rd). We are aiming for 30+ teams this year,” said Gill.
For those who don’t plan to participate there are other events planned. There will be food concessions and beer gardens both days, a silent auction, a fish-fry, a golf tournament, a kids fishing derby from the dock, and music. The weigh-ins are open to the public and are always exciting!
