The Rainy River Locum Rental House held its big charity auction this past weekend, Saturday, September 7, 2013. Over 100 bid numbers were issued as buyers vied for the 1000s of items up for bid. Everything from a large selection of kitchenware, to furniture, to garden tools, sporting goods, antiques and furniture was on offer
“It was an unqualified success,” stated Carolyn Kreger, co-chair of the Fundraising subcommittee.
“We had dozens of volunteers who have helped over the past weeks and months collecting and organizing the items – all donated by the generous citizens of area communities. And an army of volunteers on auction day including the auctioneers, Jerry Jolicoeur, Corrie and Janice Wiersema, high school students offering their community service hours, as well as a host of friends and neighbours. It was all volunteers - the whole effort including the canteen. It was wonderful. Our heartfelt thanks to all including the bidders who generously opened their wallets for this worthwhile cause” she said.
Overall the charity auction raised approximately $4,000.00 from bidders, and the canteen brought in another $700.00 for a total of $4,700.00. Successful bidders are reminded they may pick up an official income tax deductible charitable receipt for their total donations of over $20.00 at the Charity Auction from the Rainy River Town Office during regular business hours. Out of town bidders will have their receipts mailed to them.
The Rainy River Locum Rental House which opened earlier this year has been three years in the making. Providing a comfortable rental home on the beautiful Rainy River for medical professionals while serving our communities at both the Rainy River Hospital and Rainy River Medical Clinic, it is an important part of maintaining 24 hour emergency service as well as comprehensive healthcare coverage.
