RRHS kicks-off Terry Fox fundraising campaign

News Release
RRHS Student Council

On September 9th, Rainy River High School had a kick off assembly for Terry Fox. We were very fortunate to have a cancer survivor from our own school to speak, Kurt Desserre.

Kurt had a 3 year battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Kurt ended his speech with, “When I walk for Terry Fox, I will be thinking about the fact that I’m not tired, I can walk, and I am lucky enough to stay around.” The Terry Fox Foundation also sent Kurt a cancer survivor t-shirt.

Over the years, since 2001, our school has raised $9,617.71. Our goal this year is to reach $10,000. To do this we are doing karaoke as a fundraiser. Students and staff can nominate anyone to sing in front of the school for $5. If that person nominated doesn’t want to sing in front of the school, they must pay $20 to take their name off the list. The top 3 voted nominees who haven’t taken their names off, will sing after the walk.

The community is more than welcome to participate in the Terry Fox Run with our school. We will be starting at the High School gym doors at 1:20 p.m. on September 30th. We hope to see you all there.
