November is Woman Abuse Awareness Month

News Release
RCC

November is Woman Abuse Awareness and Prevention month and Riverside Community Counselling, a division of Riverside Health Care (RHC), is pleased to announce that they will be participating in and promoting the Shine the Light Campaign.
The Shine the Light Campaign was initiated in London, ON by the London Abused Women’s Centre to\ increase awareness of woman abuse to the public. The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness of woman abuse with the use of the color purple; to stand in solidarity with abused women and support them in understanding that any shame and/or blame they may feel does not belong to them but belongs to the perpetrators of their abuse.
Jacquee Loerzel, Community Family Violence Counsellor, is co-ordinating the efforts on behalf of RHC to promote the initiative by inviting the businesses of Fort Frances to participate in a purple contest by decorating their windows and stores in purple to support the campaign. Judging will occur on November 22nd with a prize going to the organization that shows the most Shine the Light spirit. Please contact Jacquee if you would like to enter your organization in the contest.
“November is Woman Abuse Awareness and Prevention month and November 15th is Wear Purple Day.
We are asking people around the community to wear purple on the 15th to show support for the cause,” informs Jacquee. “I look forward to seeing the community decorated in purple. It takes a village to save a life and woman abuse is an issue that needs to be highlighted and addressed in our community.”
Jacquee will be visiting the businesses at the beginning of November to hand out purple posters or people can request a poster or more information by calling Jacquee at 274-4807
If you are someone who is being abused and needs counselling assistance please call Riverside Community Counselling at 274-4807.
