Lest we forget.
Very powerful words and next Monday area residents will gather at cenotaphs and local Royal Canadian Legions to remember those who gave their all so that we can continue to enjoy peace and freedoms.
In Rainy River the Remembrance Day Service will begin at 10:45 a.m. in the Legion Hall. It will begin with the Legion Colour Party parading the colours in.
That will be followed by O’Canada, a welcome, the recitation of In Flanders Fields and the hymn Amazing Grace.
There will then be two minutes of silence before Mayor Deb Ewald and Legion Pres. Walter Wagner read the Honour Roll of those who lost their lives in combat during WW I, WW II and the Korean War.
A solo of “Oh Danny Boy” will then be sung by Jeff Fraser.
After that “A soldiers Letter to this Mother” and the Legion Mandate will be read by Legion President Walter Wagner.
Legion Chaplain George Chojko-Bolec will then deliver a Prayer for Peace.
Everyone will join in the hymn “O Valiant Hearts” before Gill Stamler delivers the Benediction.
The Legion Colour Party will then march the colours out to the cenotaph, escorting veterans present to the west side of the monument.
A dedication by Chaplain Chojko-Bolec will be read before many wreathes are laid around the cenotaph. The Last Post will then be read and then the Legion parade and dismissal of the Colour Party will take place.
President Wagner would like to encourage the public to come out to both the inside and outside services.
A lunch will then be offered in the Legion following the services.
