After two perfect seasons, the Rainy River Owls senior and junior girls basketball teams added some icing to their cakes when they both won NORWOSSA gold at home last Thursday!
The juniors took to the court first and played against the Red Lake Rams. The Juniors quickly took the lead in the first quarter and never looked back. It was 12-5 after the first. In the second they widened their lead 21-10.
In the second half the Owls steadily added points to the score board and limited the Rams offense. It was 44-25 final score for the Owls
The seniors then faced the Atikokan Voyageurs in was mostly a one sided game. While it was close, only 6-2 for the Owls after one quarter, the RRHS girls would hold their opponents scoreless in the second quarter to finish the first half 18-2.
The Owls played strong offense and defense in the second half. After three it was 31-8 and at the final buzzer it was 39-15 for RRHS. The win earned them the right to host the NWOSSA playoffs this Thursday and Friday in Rainy River.
The Hornepayne Hawks will be travelling to RR to challenge the Owls. It will be the best out of three games with the first game scheduled for 9:30 Thursday morning. The second one will be at 4 p.m. and will be followed by a spaghetti dinner (with a free will offering to help pay for a trip to OFSSAs if the Owls win). If needed a deciding game will be held Friday morning at 9:30 a.m.
