They may have returned win-less, but the RRHS Sr. Girls Basketball team held their own and learned from their trip to the All Ontarios last week.
Held in Sault Ste. Marie, the trip was not as far as it normally is for the girls. It is usually held in Southern Ontario. Their first game was Thursday morning against E.J. Lajeunesse who was ranked #6 at the tournament. RR was ranked 16th. Lajeunesse prevailed 48-21. Leading RR scorer was Myan Miller with 12 points.
Their next game was at 3:30 p.m Thurs. against #1 ranked Algonquin. RR lost 44-16. Leading scorers for RR were Myan Miller and Meaghan Vogan each with 5 pts.
On Friday at 10 a.m. they competed in the consolation quarter final against Port Colburne who was ranked 8th. They lost that one as well 47-28.
Coach Rebecca Tolen said, “The girls played amazing! Because of our ranking (16th) we played the #6th ranked team and then the #1 ranked team. Neither teams were able to blow us out. We made them earn every point they scored. Our last game was against the 8th ranked team. We did well in that game losing by only nine baskets. Our defense was very effective and although we had trouble scoring baskets. If our shooting had be on a little more, the score would have been quite different. The girls had an amazing time and learned a lot!”
These three losses were the first ones for the team. They went undefeated in NORWOSSA regular season, won NORWOSSA gold and again undefeated in NWOSSAs to win gold again!
