Mark your calendars as Rainy River will be kicking off the Christmas season with its annual Christmas Extravaganza on December 7th!
“We have a full day of Christmas fun planned for all ages that day!” said Rainy River Recreation Director Kam Kuzyk.
The Extravaganza begins at Noon with shopping upstairs and if need be downstairs at the Rainy River Community Centre. “We have 18 vendors signed up already and are still taking entries. If we get full upstairs we will use the main floor as well!” said Kuzyk. Anyone wanting to rent space can call Nikki Blakney at 852-3362, ext. 2. There will be a door prize that all who attend the shopping can enter.
Professional photos with Santa will also begin at Noon and run until 4 p.m. This to will be at the Centre.
At 1 p.m. free hot chocolate will be available for youths 18 and under and the canteen with an extended menu will be open.
There will be kids activities including activities on and on the arena ice surface at 1:30 p.m. Kids are asked to bring their skates and hockey sticks. These activities are free of charge!
At 4:15 p.m. there will be Christmas caroling and visiting with Santa. Santa will have goody bags for every kid that visits with him!
The Town Christmas Tree will be lit next to Gillon’s Insurance at 5:45 p.m. Mayor Deb Ewald will do the honours!
That will signal the start of the always great Santa Claus Parade of Lights! To date there are four entries already! Kuzyk is hoping to see that number grow. To enter in the parade please call him at 852-4446. The parade entries will line up at Hannam Park in the marina parking lot around 5:30 p.m. for a 6 p.m start. The parade route will be up Main and then east on Broadway Ave. and end at the Community Centre.
The annual Christmas colouring contest winners are Isabella Matthew, Tyanna Wood, and Phoenix Nault. They will get to ride with Santa in the Parade.
After the parade there will be free family skating to round the day out at the RR arena.
