Fort Frances, ON – On Wednesday, November 20, members of Riverside Health Care were on hand to accept a grant for $12,200 from the Northern Cancer Fund of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation to fund the purchase of new equipment for chemotherapy including a triple channel IV pump and a specialized pharmacy cart. The grant was made possible thanks to generous donors to the Northern Cancer Fund.
Glenn Craig, President & CEO, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, who presented the grant remarked, “Philanthropic support from people across Northwestern Ontario, including those in the Rainy River District, ensure that we are able to strengthen our cancer program and provide exceptional cancer care close to home. On October 10, we launched our Exceptional Cancer Care Campaign to raise $5.9 million for our Cancer Centre and its 13 satellite sites. This investment in chemotherapy equipment is part of our commitment to our community to ensure that no matter where cancer treatment is provided, it is of the highest quality.”
“Riverside Health Care is extremely grateful to be the recipient of this generous grant to fund chemotherapy equipment,” remarked Glenna Morand, Director, Patient Safety and Manager of Care, Emo Health Centre/Chemotherapy, Riverside Health Care. “We have always been committed to providing patients in the Rainy River District with ‘quality care close to home’ and this grant will allow us to continue those services. Funds from the grant will enable us to purchase a new IV pump to deliver chemotherapy as well as a specialized pharmacy cart that will enable us to prepare and deliver medications safely.”
This grant represents an ongoing commitment by the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation to provide exceptional healthcare for Rainy River District cancer patients at Riverside. Previously, between 2005 and 2011, $44,423 has been provided to Riverside Health Care to fund colorectal cancer screening, chemotherapy equipment and a Gamma Probe for surgery. This new grant brings the 8-year total of investments to $56,623. None of it would have been possible without the community’s continued support of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, and, in particular, the Northern Cancer Fund.
The Northern Cancer Fund of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation is proud to raise funds that 100% dedicated to providing exceptional cancer care for residents of Northwestern Ontario.
