You are here
You win Old Man Winter
Okay Old Man Winter... I give in. You win. You are tougher than this Canadian!
For weeks I have been telling myself that I am Canadian! I am tougher than winter. I can make it to the end of this frigid season unscathed!
But on the weekend I felt like I was beaten.
Saturday I went outside to stack next year's wood in the shed. I put two pairs of socks on, long johns, three layers under a heavy coat, a warm hat and warm work gloves.
I figured I was going to be out of the wind and could get lots done. I actually anticipated getting tired and quitting, not getting beat back by the cold weather.... but Old Man Winter is tougher than I figured.
After 20 minutes I was cold and quit working.
An hour or so later I walked up to the Grand Opening at All Sew and again found myself cold from the walk.
But neither of those experiences were as cold as I was after standing in the arena for the ice show and then walking home into that frigid windchill Saturday night.
Well now that I am beaten, Old Man Winter you can retire knowing you are tougher than me and I am sure many other Canadians that have had enough.
We will mark you down as one of the toughest winters ever... just go away... leave us to lick our wounds and to thaw out!
–Until then, Ken
