If there is one thing small towns are good at doing, it is pulling together like a family.
This week marks the last week people can vote for various projects on Tbaytel's For Good website. One of those projects is to make the Rainy River Ball Park safer for both competitors and fans alike.
Recreation Director, Kam Kuzyk, knows the ball diamond and fan facilities there need some major work. Not only is he the Rec. Director, he himself has used them and continues to do so.
Like Kam and so many people out there, I grew up in Rainy River. As kids much of the summer sporting activities centralized around the ball diamonds.
I remember playing little league on the diamond that used to be where the parking lot is now across the road from the current ball diamonds.
Then as a young adult I played slo-pitch there and eventually on the two diamonds located on the east side of Govt. Road.
They have been and continue to be used by people of all ages and genders in our community. But use causes wear and tear. That means maintenance and sometimes major repairs are needed.
However, in these tough economic times money is tight. So if the community can benefit from a program like Tbaytel For Good, we all need to do our best to try and make that happen.
Voting for the projects goes until this Friday. We are in fourth place in the voting as I write this. Do your part... vote today and every day this week!
–Until then, Ken
