Asparagus on sale is a sure sign of Spring!

In the past week I have experienced a sure sign of spring... asparagus has been on sale at several grocery stores I have been in!
While many of us look forward to harvesting wild asparagus in the spring here, it always becomes more plentiful in southern climates before it does here.
So it is this time of year we get the first tease of Spring when the spear-shaped veggie goes on sale!
Just a couple of weeks ago we looked at it in a store for over $4 per pound. But last week we bought it for $1.88 and $1.99 per pound! Very affordable for something so good!
Since it is only cheap when it is plentiful in the Spring, we tend to only have it as a treat once or twice this time of year. But in the last week I was lucky enough to have it three times!
It is so delicious and is very nutritious. Full of vitamins, protein, fibre, and much much more it is not only tasty... it is good for us!
The only bad thing that comes with eating this good is what it does to us come potty time... it makes our pee almost glow bright yellow and very smelly.
But that is a small price to pay, knowing that it means Spring has sprung to our south and is heading this way!
I hope I get to have some of the wild asparagus that grows locally very soon!
