Walter Bruce Sandmoen, 87
Walter Bruce Sandmoen (1926-2014)
Walter Sandmoen of Rainy River passed away on March 16th, 2014.
He was born on the farm north of Rainy River on August 31st, 1926 to Charlie and Mabel Sandmoen.
He lived most of his life on the farm except for time spent in the army. He worked as a switchman for the CNR in Atikokan for over 30 years until his retirement. Walter was a proud member of the Rainy River Legion. He enjoyed old time country music, loved to play the guitar, and was an avid hunter known for his tracking skills and accurate shooting.
Walter was predeceased by his parents, brothers Wilburt, Kenneth and Lloyd; two sisters Charlotte Ernst and Gladys Fraser; niece Sharon and nephew Ronnie; brother-in-laws Sam Ernst, Don Fraser and Gerry Marr.
Walter is survived by his sister Clara Marr of Calgary and his brother Stanley Sandmoen and wife Beverly of Dryden.
Walter never married but will always be fondly remembered as the uncle who gave treats and rides to the beach by his niece Cheryl, and nephews Darrell (Angel), Kevin, Greg and Murray. He was a great uncle to Jessica, Michelle and Shaye and a great great uncle to Stevie.
Walter is also survived by sister-in-laws Evelyn (Lloyd) and Susan (Ken), his cousin Beulah Olson and husband Bill and many more nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Becky Wood for stopping by the farm to make sure Walter was doing good and bringing him food and drinks; to Gerald Marchuk for his help with all things, and to the Bobby and Vivian Locking (best neighbours ever) for all of their help over the years.
Notice of a memorial service to celebrate Walter’s life will be given at a later date (still too much snow at the Chapel). If so desired, donations may be made to the McInnes Creek chapel - c/o Vivian Locking.
Arrangements entrusted to Northridge Funeral Home, Emo, Ontario. Online condolences may be offered at www.northridgefuneralhome.com
Miss you and love you Noel, until we meet again
