Barbara Anne Solomonian

Barbara Anne Solomonian, 63, beloved wife of Art Solomonian, passed away in the Rainy River Hospital, on Thursday, May 10, 2001, after six months of a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Port Arthur May 7th, 1938 was the daughter of the late Cyril and Barbara Binder.

Educated in Port Arthur and a graduate of Port Arthur High School She attended the University of Minnesota, in Marshall, Minn., obtaining her certification as an X-ray Technician. She worked in Terrace Bay, Ont. for a short time before coming to the Red Cross Hospital in Rainy River, during 1975. She retired in 1983.

Barbara married Art Solomonian on November 21, 1981 at Fort William R.C. Cathedral. For 13 years they enjoyed spending their winter months in Florida. Barbara enjoyed reading novels, averaging a book a week, garage saleing, both here and in Florida. She was a talented ceramic worker, while down south. Ten-pin bowling was a new sport for her which she enjoyed. Besides her parents she was predeceased by a son Robert in 1980.

Left to mourn her passing along with her husband are daughters Laurie Garriock and Victoria Katona (Bob), step daughter Colleen Shields (Roy), step sons Paul (Ruth-Anne), and Arthur Wm. Solomonian (Lea Anne), ten grandchildren Mitchell, Troy, Jennifer, Shawn, Michelle, Jacquie, Ryan, Kelly, Leslie, and Adam.

Following cremation, memorial services were held at Knox United Church, Rainy River on Monday, May 14, 2001, Pastor Pat White, officiated.

Eulogy was given by granddaughter Michelle Shields and a close friend of the family Mr. Ed Prinselaar. Interment was at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
