Lawrence "Buzz" Miniely, 91

It is with profound sadness the family announces the passing of Buzz. Buzz was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Peggy of 65 yrs, daughters Diane and Jo (Dave), grandchildren Michelle and Matt Lawrence, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by sons Ross and Frederick, his parents Winlow and Dora, brothers Floyd and Gordon, sisters in law Lois, Norma and Muriel and brother in law Bob.
Buzz lived most of his 91 years in Rainy River except for a period of time attending Angus Business School in Winnipeg and serving as a wireless operator in the Canadian Navy during World War II.
His ship the HMCS Magog was torpedoed in the Gulf of St. Lawrence on October 14, 1944. Buzz was employed at the Canadian Customs in Rainy River for 34 years until retirement in 1977. Buzz loved sports as a participant and observer, and had a great fondness for horses, trains, music and dancing.
He spent many happy years with family and friends at a cabin he built on Lake of the Woods
A celebration of his life was held on Tuesday October 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. from the Rainy River Knox United Church, with Rev. Frances Flook officiating. Legion honours will be provided by the Rainy River Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 54.
Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Rainy River, Ont. If desired in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be offered at
