Ruth Eileen O’Brien
16 January, 1926- 08 May, 2015
With great sadness, the family of Eileen announces her passing at Lakehead Manor in Thunder Bay, ON. Mom was born in Stoughton, Saskatchewan to Don and Ruth Cupp. In 1934 her parents moved their family to the Rainy River District in North Western Ontario where they set up a homestead. Mom eventually made her way to Kenora, ON and joined the Ladies Aux at RCL Branch # 12 and actively volunteered there and continued her membership until her passing; a 35 year membership.
Mom moved to Thunder Bay, ON in 1987. She enjoyed her volunteer work with Pinewood and Dawson Courts, she also delivered with Meals on Wheels and was a recipient of “Volunteer of the Year” by the city of Thunder Bay in 2000. She also appreciated the live music of artists who came to town and spoke endlessly of her trips she made while being a member of the 55+ Travel club.
Mom will be lovingly remembered by her six children and their families: Gordon (Wendy) Scott of Lacombe, AB; Jim (Loni) Scott of Morden, MB; Cathy Scott (Bryan Resinger) of Grande Prairie, AB; Donna (Les) McDonald of Steinbach, MB; Sharon Scott of Thunder Bay, ON and Sheila LeFeuvre of Slate River, ON. Mom’s grandchildren; Gordon Jr. (Jaclyn), Haley, Jeff (Monica), Marc (Sherri), Tim, Lauren, Rhonda (Cary), Angela (Darcy), Andrew (Tracy), Andrea, Mikael (Michi), Sara (Dario), Aloysia, Jared and her nine Great-Grandchildren.
Mom will be missed by her sister-in-law Laurie Cupp of Prince George, BC and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two infant sisters, her brother Robert and wife Dorothy Cupp of fort Frances, ON; brothers Lisle Cupp of Campbell River and Keith Cupp of Prince George, BC; sister June and husband Robert Watson of Carman, MB; sister-in-law Geraldine and husband Frank Smart of Rainy River; ON and son-in-law Robert LeFeuvre of Slate River, ON.
The family would like to thank Lakehead Manor for caring of mom in her final days. Thank you to Jenkens Funeral Home for all their support during this time.
At mom’s (Eileen) request there will be no service. The internment will be held in Rainy River, ON at a later date.
