Getting better at supporting your town

We have been talking about what it takes to rejuvenate a local economy by individual action. We live in a very blessed part of the world - we just can’t convince the big city types how good we have it!
We actually have only one problem. You may say it is population decline, but 85% of the world’s communities are facing the issue of out-migration as people move to larger mega-cities, so out-migration – or as it it now described “depopulation” - is a worldwide symptom.
No - our major issue is confidence. With confidence we can overcome any symptom. I believe passionately that we already have the will and the ability to do whatever it is we seek to accomplish.
So for you and I to become better at supporting our community, we have to Know Ourselves Better. Remember that we have to do 5 things:
-support local activities
-involve ourselves fully
-contribute positively
-learn about our history
-enjoy your own hometown
If as individuals and families we firmly believe in the future of the Northwest and its amazing potential, then we have to step up to the plate with a personal commitment. Commitment actually builds confidence.
That is how we will overcome our difficulties - by strengthening ourselves, we strengthen each other. Recall the expression that “when the tide rises all ships sail higher.” The ultimate success of the Northwest means what happens to our neighbouring communities happens to us all.
Armed with that knowledge we must ask ourselves, “When a stranger asks about our community, how do we answer - positively or negatively?” Community pride requires that we reinforce the good things and work like crazy to improve on our shortcomings. That is confidence.
What is the best thing you can say about your hometown? Do you smile and tell it with pride? We’ve got lots to brag about. Show how confident you are about our potential.
See - it comes easily - now to be a Hometown Champ just remember to say it out loud!
