Donald Cameron Calder
October 29, 1936 – October 17, 2015
Don passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 17 at the St. Boniface Hospital. He is survived by his wife Rose, children Joel, Angela (Paul) and Renee (Kelly) as well as his grandchildren Gatlin, Brayden, Mathew, Jessica, Derek, Linden and McKenna. He is also survived by his sisters Eileen, Donna and brother Garry (Monica) and many nieces, nephews and cousins, brothers-in-law Albert, Bob (Pat) and sister-in-law Ann. He was predeceased by his parents Leslie and Annie Calder and sisters Doreen, Lillian, Shirley and brother Leslie.
He moved to Winnipeg in the 1960s and worked for Federal Pioneer/Pauwels Canada Inc. as a welder and was active in the Steel Workers Union Local 4297. He also volunteered at the Riverview Community Club as Sports Chairman and President.
Don was a hardworking unassuming man who liked a simple life and took great delight in watching his children/grandchildren grow up. He loved the outdoor life (summer) and spent most of the summers camping across Canada and the U.S. In later years he moved the trailer to a permanent spot in Pinawa where he spent 12 wonderful years.
His unique sense of humour will be missed by all who knew him. Don really enjoyed his retirement. He took up golf and spent many happy hours on the golf courses.
At Don’s request cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Rainy River, Ontario.
If friends so desire donations may be made in Don’s memory to the Lung Association of Manitoba, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, 204-774-5501 or a charity of your choice.
Rest in Peace –
You will be forever missed
