Hospital Auxiliary plugs RR in Toronto
Irene Hanson
RR Hosp. Aux.
Eighteen members attended our regular meeting.
Before starting the meeting Myrna Armstrong gave a report on their trip to the H.A.A.O. Conference at Toronto. The presentation they gave on “Community Links”, a history of the works the auxiliary has done in our community, both orally and in picture was very well received and the girls got a standing ovation. Many questions were asked as to how a small community as ours can accomplish so much. They now know where Rainy River is, ie as the girls stated, “The beginning of Young St.”. They closed their show with the quote “Beautiful young people are an accident of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art”.
This is a first for Rainy River and Northwestern Ontario, as we had not been asked before to be part of the programming. The auxiliary is very proud of you.
Rudy Giuliani (former Mayor of New York) was the main speaker, his theme, Principles of Leadership. He had 6 he tried to follow in his own work, 1) stay positive, 2) optimism, 3) courage, 4) preparation, 5) team work, and finally set your beliefs and go for it. Follow these guidelines and it will get you through whatever comes at you. Other speakers were also very informative and entertaining. An excellent report Myrna. Thank you.
We continued with our regular meeting; the minutes read and the financial report given. The only correspondence was a thank you card from Nicole Therien and Gayleen Jasper for the Breast Pump we purchased for the Health Unit.
We now have our birds housed in the activity room in the hospital, and Carla Books is looking after them at present. There are 9 birds in all, and we already have a nest with 4 eggs. Soon there will be babies. Drop in and enjoy a visit with the residents and the birds. The proceeds from our raffle will go towards and aviary.
New business, our Bazaar, to be held at the Community Centre, Dec. 4 from 2-4 p.m. There will be draws, penny table, cabbage rolls, perogies, Christmas pudding and for your entertainment, a variety show. The raffle has 2 prizes, a Fuji digital camera and an ice fishing package. The ticket entitles you to a draw for 2 door prizes, pie, tea or coffee.
We will be setting up Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock, so penny table donations can be brought then or left at Myrna Armstrongs if you wish to bring them earlier. Items are needed.
We will be doing Christmas parties for the seniors both at the station and the hospital.
Finally we wish to say a special thank you to the people who helped so much with our presentations. The Rainy River Image Producers Don & Lu Ricci, director Myrna Armstrong, assistant director Elsie Gerula, Evie Moen for her pictures, the Rainy Rive Record picture Archives, the staff and residents of the hospital, Lila Sanders who by taking our report to H.A.A.O. we were asked to do the presentation, and the Riverside Health Care Facility for their financial assistance to make the trip. This really was a community link.
Our next meeting on Dec. 5, a luncheon. The phoning committee will let you know where and the cost.
