John (Jack) William Rattigan, 98

Peacefully on Tuesday January 26, 2016, Jack Rattigan, 98 of Rainy River, ON and formerly of Sleeman, ON passed away at the Rainy River Hospital.
Jack was born in Sleeman, ON, on November 27, 1917 to William and Queenie Rattigan.
Jack worked for the Canadian National Railway on the running crew for many years out of Rainy River before he retired in 1975. He was a veteran and a prisoner of war of the Second World War after serving overseas in the Royal Canadian Air Force with his brothers Wilfrid and Charles (Bud).
He was a life time member of the local Royal Canadian Legion (Major Hughes Branch).
Jack enjoyed many outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, trapping and gardening for most of his life.
He was dedicated to his parents, and to his brothers and sisters, especially to his mother and brother Bud in their later years.
A member of the Roman Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Way Parish in Pinewood all his life, and a life time member of the local Knights of Columbus (Father Florentine Council).
Jack is survived by his sisters Clare, Bernice and Eunice, brother Eugene and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents William and Queenie; brothers Wilfrid, Bud and Bill and sisters Catherine, Mary and Gladys.
Funeral mass was held on Saturday January 30, 2016 at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Rainy River with Fr. Allan Lapay Celebrant and assisted by Deacon George Chojko-Bolec .
Pall Bearers were Bill Olinyk, Ron Hayes, Chris Carey, Wally Armstrong, Steve Yeryk and Manuel Ferreira. Honourary Pall Bearers where all of Jack’s nieces and nephews.
An Honour Guard was provided by the members of the Knights of Columbus and the Rainy River Royal Canadian Legion. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Rainy River, at a later date.
