Merveline Brown, 91
It is with great sadness that the family of Merveline Brown announces her passing on Sunday, February 28, 2016 with her daughters by her side.
Merveline was born on March 7, 1924 in Barwick, ON to Henry and Violet Ahrens. She grew up on the Ahrens family farm attending Barwick Consolidated School and then Fort Frances High School. She attended the Summer Sessions of the Toronto Normal School receiving her teacher’s certificate. She taught school in the district for 15 years and never stopped learning, taking every course and workshop available to her. Merve was united in marriage to Gerald Brown on August 7, 1946 and they settled north of Stratton on the Brown family farm. She was an active member of the Women’s Institute and the Stratton United Church. Merveline was one to keep busy; sewing, crafting, scrapbooking, knitting and dancing were just a few of her hobbies. As the girls left home she enjoyed travelling to their homes for visits.
Merveline was predeceased by her parents; husband Gerald (2014); grandson Blake Cheslock; son-in-law Willie Cheslock and siblings Mervin, Otto, Mansel, Howard, Doraline and Myrtle.
She leaves behind her daughters Barbara (James) Metcalfe of The Pas, MB, Judith (Harry) Mercer of Thunder Bay, ON, Marjorie (John) Boudreau of Iroquois Falls, ON and Alfreda Cheslock of Dryden, ON; grandchildren Christine (Clarence) McDonald, Jennifer (Chris) Keller, Bridget (Daniel) Maksymchak, Neal (Heather) Boudreau, Darcy (Trisha) Boudreau, Jillian Boudreau(Dan Dube), Rhiannon (Steven) Sachowski, Kelsey Cheslock (Brian Gasbarini); great grandchildren Lucas & Caitlin McDonald, Hinako Cheslock, Adeline Boudreau, Jace Keller, Summer Sachowski, Trevor Maksymchak, Kira Keller, Ariya Boudreau and Leah Dube; sisters Dorothy Brown of Emo, ON, Ella (Lawrence) Desserre and Shirley (Robert) Gadd of Fort Frances, ON as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, ON with Reverend Barbara Miller officiating.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be held in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances, ON at a later date.
The honourary pallbearers will be Merveline’s grandchildren and great grandchildren.
