John Laverne Peterson, 87

John Laverne Peterson passed away peacefully in the Rainy River Hospital on August 10, 2016. John was born on August 26, 1928, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Arne and Helga Peterson.
He moved to Baudette, Minnesota in 1968. John worked at Ken-Mar-Ke Resort, Jesme’s Resort, Bodahl Plumbing and finally for Solvay until his retirement.
He married Margaret Edith Moen in October 1979, and moved to Rainy River. John and Margaret spent many winters together in Phoenix, Arizona, and summers in Ontario.
John was a member of the Moose Lodge in Baudette. He was an avid reader; he enjoyed working crossword puzzles and watched many a baseball and football game in season. John loved to spend time in his woodworking shop where he crafted a variety of wooden items for his home, for his family and friends.
Coffee and stories were enjoyed daily with his brother-in-law, Lenard Ricci.
John is survived by his Wife, Margaret; two Sons, Charlie Peterson of Phoenix, Arizona, and Russ Peterson (Susie) of Omaha, Nebraska; Daughter, Polly Peterson Norton of Phoenix, Arizona; Step-Sons Lenard Moen (Joanne) of Morson, and Douglas Moen (Donna) of Rainy River, and Step-Daughter Kari Jewett of Rainy River, Sisters Arlene Hodge and Katherine McKern of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Grandsons John Peterson and Mike Peterson of Omaha, Nebraska; numerous Step Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. John was preceded in death by son Mike Peterson, his parents, Arne and Helga Peterson; brother George Peterson and sister Margaret Hunter.
A graveside service will be held on Friday September 23, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Rainy River, Ontario. Reception to follow at the Rainy River Evangelical Covenant Church.
