Your guess is as good as theirs!
Ken's Corner
Was the weather last week a sign of things to come? Or just a blip on the radar of what has generally been an amazing year weatherwise?
The snow combined with howling winds topping 40 miles per hour had me wondering if Old Man Winter was back with a vengeance this year.
It is funny that at the same time as the weather was getting out of hand big news organizations were trumpeting the predictions of a mild winter with below normal snowfall.
I have heard so many different types of long range forecasts ranging from television and radio to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.
Who will be right? Chances are most will be wrong as they are just guessing based on past records and patterns they have seen take place before.
The the trouble with the way they do this forecasting is the data they look back on goes back less than 200 years and the good technology to actually record what happens in a storm has been around for less than 50 years.
In the scope of the Earth’s life (several million years old at the very least) the base for predictions is a very thin slice of the pie.
So your guess is likely as good as the guys and gals that are paid to make predictions.
But we all want to hear that it is going to be a good winter so we all buy into what is a gamble at best.
–Until then,
Ken
