Jr. Boys hoopsters win first game of the season

This week at Rainy River High School, the sports committee held a pep-rally for the beginning of the boy’s basketball and girl’s volleyball season.
The pep-rally was also held for boys and girl’s curling and hockey. Several parents attended and Kristine Brown won the attendance prize of a scarf of her choice. Congratulations Kristine!
The Grade 12s won the cheering contest closely followed by the grade nines. Don’t forget to practice for the next pep rally parents!
The athletes really appreciate the parents and community members in the stands. Thank you for your support.
The Owl’s Nest was open this past Tuesday and Thursday, there are now water bottles, spirit towels and pom-poms for sale, these are selling really well. We would like to thank Theresa Sharp for helping out at the Owl’s Nest on Tuesday, she was a big help. The Owl’s Nest will be open Wednesday this week so if you are wanting to purchase any Owl merchandise stop by then and don’t forget to get your quilt square.
In Sports Action
Out on the court this past Tuesday, the senior boys basketball team lost to Atikokan; Timo Brielman was the high scorer with 21 points.
The junior boys basketball team beat Atikokan, 54 to 53, there was a lot of excitement during this game as it was very close. Josh Anderson was high scorer along with Kelly Brown. It was an intense game but the boys coached by Alyshia Langlais, were able to stay in control and bring home the win. The senior girls volleyball won one their first set, but Atikokan came back to win the last three in hard fought sets. The junior girls volleyball lost in three sets. The junior girls had some trouble with first game gitters but almost won the third set with a score of 26-24.
On the court this past Thursday, Whitefish Bay was here to take on our Owls in basketball and volleyball. Both senior boys and junior girls were victorious. Junior girls pulled out their first victory of year in five games.
High scorer in the boys‚ game was Tristan Shumaker.
Senior girls volley ball lost to Whitefish bay in three games. They played an excellent game against an excellent team. Way to go team on all the wonderful play this week.
Also, in hockey the girls were tied with International Falls until the third period until penalty trouble gave them a loss by 1 goal. The JV girls‚ team beat International Falls 5-0 with Morgan McNally scoring 1 goal. The boys played Eveleth/Gilbert on Saturday and won their game 9-6. Warroad and reports have it that it was the best game the boys had played all year. The final score was 5-3 for Warroad. The boys JV team lost to Warroad.

This week in court sports, Red Lake is here on Wednesday December 13 to play our Owls in more exciting games.
The junior girls start off the day at 1:00 pm, followed by the senior girls, senior boys and the junior boys. In hockey the girls face off against East Grand Forks on Tuesday December 12, with varsity starting at 6:00 pm.
On Thursday December 14, the girls face off against Roseau with junior varsity starting at 5:30 pm and varsity starting at 7:30pm.
On Saturday December 16, the girls face off against Park Rapids at 2:00 pm. All three games will take place at the Baudette Arena. In boys hockey, on Saturday December 16, they will be playing in East Grand Forks.
