The last time the LoW/RR/Indus Girls High School Hockey team faced Fort Frances it was a nail biter and nothing changed on Thursday when Fort Frances visited Rainy River to play them again.
It was the 11:35 mark when LoW/RR/Indus opened the scoring with a goal by Holland Johnson and an assist by Courtney Bitter.
Fort Frances replied at the 4:31 mark to tie the game with a goal by Carlee Bosma. But LoW/RR/Indus was determined to regain the lead and scored at 3:11. That goal was scored by Brenley Anderson and assisted by Karly Thompson.
In the second period it was a duel between goalies. Neither one of them let anything by them in the entire period.
In the third period Fort tied the game early on at the 14:58 mark with a goal by Carly Holt, assisted by Laren Krukaski. They then took the lead at 14:00 with a goal by Laren Krukaski assisted by Erika Anderson.
Shots on goal were 18 for FF and 17 for LOW/RR.
Coach’s Comments:
The girls played one of the best games they've played all year, unfortunately, we had about a one minute time span in the beginning of the third period where we gave up two goals. After that, the girls never quit, and we had good scoring chances the rest of the way, but just couldn't get the bounces. We managed to kill two 5 on 3's, which required a lot of hard work on the girls' part. I would be pleased if the girls can carry this type of attitude and desire through the remaining six regular season games. They know they have it in them; it just needs to surface on game day.
