Town donates $10,000 to CT scanner

The Town of Rainy River did it’s bit Monday evening to help the district raise $1.5 million for a CT Scanner to be located in Fort Frances.
Council received a delegation from the Just Imagine Committee Monday evening. Committee chair Deanne Cunningham said, “Who would have imagined only three months ago that we would be here today so close to our goal.”
Council later passed a motion to donate $10,000 to the campaign over a four year period.
Accepting the cheque was local committee member Bob McGreevy, Riverside Exec. Dir. Teresa Hazel and Cunningham.
Council Concerned
RR Drugs owner and operator Sarah Berg filled council in about the potential impacts Bill 102 may have on her business and others of similar situation in Ontario (see story page one for more details on Bill 102).
Mayor Deb Ewald said, “This is very troubling news for our community. We will do what we can at our end.”
Council passed a resolution asking the government to reconsider the changes to Ontario drug laws.
Council will forward the resolution to local provincial and federal politicians and the Minister of Health.
Other Business
•Council passed an interim tax levy. Taxpayers will receive a bill for half their 2006 taxes and it will be due at the end of March.
•Council passed a motion to borrow $207,472.30 at an interest rate of 2.55% for 2006.
•Council passed a motion to pay $7 per capita to RRFDC for 2007 based on a population of 866.
•Council declared Rainycrest redundant and removed it from the Town’s committee structure.
