Girls hockey awards doled out

While they finished the season 9-17, coaches Mike Mosher and Katie Hasbargen were pleased with the Lake of the Woods/Rainy River high school girls team.
Last Tuesday they held a windup at the Rainy River Curling Club at which they recapped the season and presented several awards.
Mosher thanked the RR Royal Canadian Legion for its generous donation of $5,000 to pay for all their practise time in Rainy River. “I received the bill for our games in Baudette and it was $4,000. Imagine if we had all our ice time in Baudette what it would have cost.”
He also thanked parent Bruce Gillie for his volunteer coaching efforts. “It think he was playing hockey before there was ice,” said Mosher. “You are a very positive role model Bruce.”
He also thanked the parents for all their support and to the girls for a great season.
“We lost five of the 17 games by one goal. 14-12 sounds better, but I am still proud of you all.” Mosher said they had hoped to win one playoff game but fell short on that. “Next year we will need more than two players scoring 20 pts. or more. Players that have 2-6 pts. this season will have to pick it up. We need to do more to get out of our section.”
He encouraged them all to shoot pucks and skate as much as possible this summer.
Coach Hasbargen echoed that advice. She noted that in the summers when she went to hockey camp she was in much better shape for the fall season.
Before the players received their honours, the team presented each of the coaches with photo memory books.
