Baudette named Walleye Capital

News Release
Lake of the Woods Tourism Bureau

Baudette Minnesota and the Lake of the Woods area have long been known as “The Walleye Capital of the World”, but now a registered trademark has been granted by the State of Minnesota.
Gregg Hennum, owner of Sportsman’s Lodge, brought the idea to the Lake of the Woods Tourism Bureau at the beginning of the year. Executive Director Denelle Hovde looked into the matter and, along with the Board of Directors, decided to pursue obtaining the trademark on a state level. “I’m surprised nobody has done this before, it just makes sense” said Hovde.
The necessary paperwork was filed and fees paid, and on February 12, 2007 the State of Minnesota made it official. Lake of the Woods is the only entity in Minnesota that can legally use “The Walleye Capital of the World” for advertising purposes for the next ten years.
Executive Director Hovde has started the process of acquiring a national trademark from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
